I am a student and I’ll be spending my second year in San Diego, America. I’m from the UK and wanted to know if anyone knows of a good/cheap insurance firm.

I am already covered with medical insurance and just wanted contents cover and loss of luggage/delays.

Thanks in advance to all sensible answers.

=)

I would check Squaremouth. It’s a comparison site that has a specialist area for long term international medical insurance. You can sort by price and benefits. There are two sites, one in the UK and one in the USA, you should use the USA site for this trip.

You can get some great travel insurance plans via:

If you want more of an expatriate health insurance plan, you may be able to get more comprehensive coverage via Expat Financial at:

Food for thought:
I would try saying either San Diego, California, or San Diego, USA. (Then you won’t tick off anyone from Canada or Mexico which are also part of North America.)

I have not heard of anyone ever using travel insurance for being a student. I thought it was for booked vacations.

Loss of luggage is $2300 for a lost bag from the airlines themselves.

Also I have heard of people having a lot of trouble collecting anything from travel insurance.
